Kion and Jasiri - The Lion Guard

Time for something a little different. See, I decided to check out Disney's new program, The Lion Guard, which is a spin off series based on the Lion King franchise. Because this show is on Disney Junior, I figured it was just going to be a kiddie, Jake and the Neverland Pirates kind of thing. Holy cow, was I wrong!

It turns out that this show is really cool! The story is about Simba's son, Kion, who became the leader of protectors known as the Lion Guard, where they keep fellow animals safe from dangerous hazards, as well as keep the Circle of Life in balance by facing off against an evil hyena known as Janja. I find this to be a really neat series, as it has fun characters, (mostly) interesting plots, very well done flash animation (and I usually hate flash animated stuff, since it seems lazy to me), and one episode even taught a lesson without it actually being boring or cheesy.

That episode in particular is also the one that introduced a new hyena girl named Jasiri, and she's already my favorite character. I'm not even kidding. She's so likable and well designed, it's not even funny. She has a nice voice with an Australian accent, a fun and sassy demeanor while still being friendly and caring, a cute appearance, appealing color scheme, and a wonderful singing ability. On top of that, she's actually a good hyena! Hyenas have always been vicious, uncaring, crazy, and even downright ugly villain characters in the series. They played a part in Mufasa's murder, kept Scar in control of the Pride Lands, and the new villain, Janja, is using his gang to cause chaos and mayhem for the Circle of Life.

Jasiri is the complete opposite of all of that. Although Kion was very reluctant to trust her at first, it didn't take him long to realize that she's a very nice person, and that not all hyenas are bad. Jasiri even went as far as to say that he and her were Sisi ni Sawa, which means "we're the same." After being part of her wonderful and catchy song, he learned that they really weren't that different from each other, and that they could start a new friendship!

They didn't hit it off at first, but after they sang together (which is totally normal for Disney stuff), they became friends. ^^

There were also, might I say, "obvious" implications that these two could very well get together. Considering the fact that I drew a picture of Kion giving Jasiri a flower (I forget the name of it, but its a real African flower), and her giving him a playful shove with her paw, as if laughing and saying "cute," it's apparent that I ship these two. They go really well together, and the best part is that this actually looks like it could happen and not be a tease, unlike some other potential relationships.

If they were to get together, it makes me wonder how Simba would react to this. I mean, she's not a lion; she's a hyena of all things, and we all know how Simba feels about them. Also, consider the fact that Jasiri convinced Kion that despite their appearances, they're the same on the inside. This new ideology he formed gives him a more open mind, and since he and her were flirting a little, it makes me think that he may actually be with her someday, as he doesn't see her as being any different from himself. It really makes me curious as to how things will go later, as I'm pretty sure Simba wants his family to be all lions. He was already rather prejudiced when it came to his son's Lion Guard team, which doesn't comprise of all lions, but rather other animals.

Now, this show may not be everyone's cup of tea. Being a Disney Junior show, there's bound to be more child centered stories, at it may not always live up to Lion King expectations, but I feel that this will still be an enjoyable series. If we get more episodes like "Never Judge a Hyena by its Spots," I'm sure it will become a big hit with the fandom. For anyone who isn't sure about this series, definitely check out the episode I just mentioned. Heck, even checking out Kion and Jasiri's awesome song down below could very well get you interested! ;D
